Dear Slow Running Deer !

From provisional results it would look like I was 1st Male 50 but was not invited to grab one one of your really lovely trophies, despite waiting!

As I traveled 200 miles to get to you & 200 miles to get home, & it was my first completed marathon, my first attempt having been a resounding failure after 16 miles 3 weeks previous I am hoping you will reward me with news that I was indeed first V50 though I see I was beaten by a V55 I thought it was one prize per category (& I am 53!)

Thanks for great event anyway.

ps I cannot drive back to collect trophy. (unless it is only way I can get it)

» Well Done Everyone

Dear Nathan

Hearty congratulations to everyone involved in the organisation of yesterday's marathon. Another superb event. It makes me proud to say I come from Essex when we are able to run through such lovely countryside and where the people are so welcoming and friendly. If I disregard my own miserable performance everything else was perfect. The organisation was impressively efficient, the medal magnificent and the goody bag extremely generous and welcome..... and I received a LARGE TShirt which was wonderful. Even the rain couldn't spoil the day. Well done to everyone. I'll see you all again next year. But tell Les his Hammers are not safe yet despite yesterday's results!

Can you tell me please is the water provided by the organisers in cups or 'sports' bottles.

I understand about providing my own bottled drink but I personally do not need to if I know water is bottled as I have trouble with cups & spillage unless they contain alcohol

Hi, if possible could you let me know where I can find info on putting out personal drinks bottles at drink stations for the marathon - I saw it mentioned on a thread but couldn't see any info. Is this available this year ? If so what miles and how do I put in drinks ?

Many thanks - appreciate your help

» water station closing down
30 Mar 2010 - 8:34 PM - by kate walch
Hi!
I'm slooow. This will be my first M. My predicted time is around 5 hours but can be even more, I hope under 5.15 is reality.
Will the water stations close down on the second lap at exactly 5 hours (in this case I will be able to use all of them) or at their 5 hours split time?
I prefer running without any water bottle, just gels. I've just run an organised 20miler and it worked well.
So what do you think, will there definitely be water for me even at the later stages or should I try to arrange it somehow on my own for the last bit?
Thank you for listening.

Hi,
I've left it late to sign up (I've just been talked into it). I want to do it to be part of a team for the county championships but entries on the day aren't valid for this and I've missed the deadline. Is there anyway round this? Many thanks.

» marathon Tshirt
06 Jun 2009 - 10:33 AM - by peter burns
Hi

Once again I was very slow going round the marathon course. By the time I finished all the Large Tshirts had gone. The lady took my details and said that I would be sent one in due course. Is there any progress to report on this? I have a full set of Halstead Marathon shirts and wouldn't like to miss out on the 2009 issue. In the past, Jean Hastings used to keep a Large T Shirt for me as we knew I wouldn't finish till the cows come home. For future years would it be possible for people to state their Tshirt size on the entry form and to see that are given that size at race end?

I ran my first Halstead Marathon today and would like to thank everyone involved with the organisation, it was flawless.

A good course, which I found quite testing. I hope to be back next year.

Being able to see my fellow Spifire Running Club members in support 4 times and the drinks being delivered to the water stations was a bonus.

» Essex medals
14 May 2009 - 9:46 AM - by Vicksta
Hi there,
I have a query about the awarding of Essex medals. On your site regarding the alloctaion of Essex Medals it says the following:

'UKA affiliated runners who were born in Essex or have been resident for nine months or more are eligible for this championship.

The Essex County Amateur Athletic Association Road Race Secretary’s decision as to eligibility on the day is final.

Unlike previous years, entry on the day is no longer possible - closing date 26-April (postal) or 3-May (on line).

Awards are made to first, second and third place finishers (both males and female) and first three teams (both males and female).
Also the following age category awards:
Men – Senior, over 40, 50, 60 and 70
Women – Senior, over 35, 45, 55 and 65.'

I finished as 11th Female, but was 3rd Senior Female overall. I notice that above it says that awards are made to the first, second and third place finishers, and then separately to the age categories, of which Senior is one of them. However, on the day, only medals to the first, second and third place finishers and to V35, 45, 55 and 65 age categories were given out.

Shouldn't I have won an Essex medal in the Senior Female age category? And if not, could you explain to me why not?

I would like to say I had a fantastic day, would run it again, and have recommended your event to all my club mates. Thank you very much for putting on such a good marathon.

Vicky

I am unable to make the race due to a knee injury. Would it be possible to defer my entry to next year please?

I am gutted to miss out as I'd been aiming for this race since the Tunbridge Wells Half in February as I'd heard such good things about it

11 May 2009 - 8:18 AM - by schmidtinator
Just a quick thank you to the organisers and the brilliant, brilliant marshalls. I had a ball yesterday.

You guys did a fantastic job and could certainly give some bigger races a run for their money. My time was pretty rubbish but I just did another marathon 2weeks ago and the hills weren't going to be conducive of any new PB.

So, this was the first marathon that I thouroughly enjoyed from start to finish. What a wonderful course and the atmosphere is absolutely superb. I've only ever done big city marathons before but I think I could get hooked on this! If I don't get into London 2010, I'll be back.

Huge, big THUMBS UP!!

Myself and 2 other runners from the Fenland Running Club ran your marathon for the 1st time today and all thought that the organisation, marshalls, water stations, supporters and helpers were excellent. They were all very encouraging when I was flagging and my fellow club member particularly enjoyed the fairy cake offered to him on the way round! Many thanks to all the volunteers - it must have been a very long day for them.

» Drinks along the way
23 Apr 2009 - 2:34 PM - by Julie (Biggleswade)
Hi

On previous road races I've run over 1/2 marathon distance I've arranged for my partner to wait at a couple of agreed mile markers with fresh supplies of sports drink - is it OK for me to do this at the Halstead marathon? I know its possible to arrange for runner's own drinks to be available at the water stations but I gather this can be oversubscribed and if its OK for my partner to pass me sports drinks at a couple of points I'd prefer to do that if possible? He'll be on a push bike so won't be getting in the way with a car or anything and will be there as support (for me and runners in general!) anyway.

Thanks in advance,

Julie

» Public Transport form Heathrow to Halstead
28 Apr 2009 - 2:40 AM - by stevebratt
Dear Race Organizers,

I will be flying into Heathrow from Boston, USA on Saturday 9 May. I am toying with the idea of running yhour marathon. Could you please recommend how to best travel by public transport from Heathrow to a location near the start of the race, and which hotels are most convenient so I will not need a car?

Thank you very much!

Hi, I was going to ask if perhaps you hadn't received my online application because I hadn't received my number yet - but having read the earlier threads that question appears to be redundant!
Unfortunately I have been injured since mid March and have not been able to run at all - I don't suppose you offer a deferral for next year do you?
Thanks, Anne P

Hi,

Tried to enter on line at: http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/events...=&v=2&EN=45437 but it says the deadline has passed, whilst your website says we have another week.

Don't want to miss out on a place, so I have filled out the paper form. Is it possible to rectify the runnersworld entry ?

» Sunday morning "opening" time
24 Apr 2009 - 6:29 PM - by Mark78
Hello

From what time on Sunday morning can we drop off personal drinks to be taken to the water stations? Presumably this is at the leisure centre?

One more question... I see from another thread that spectators at Levit's corner should park in Pebmarsh? Are they able to drive there along the course as long as they do so before the runners start (9:45am for the ultra runners I think)?

Thanks

Concerning the drinks: can you just confirm that you serve water, and plain and simple orange squash (as stated in the website).

No sports drink, no isotonic, nothing fancy, just ordinary squash?

Hi guys and gals. I just wanted to check something. I'm 43 and about to enter this years marathon and would like to know if I qualify for a vets catergory/championship. I was not born in Essex and have not lived there for a few of years. I did however live in Southend, Essex from the age of 7 to 36. What do you think?

Also, well done. Great website and info.
