Five members took part in the Braintree Triathlon held at Halstead Leisure Centre. The skies opened as the first wave started the 400m pool phase. By around 10am the 23km bike route was under a considerable amount of water and the rain continued to fall in varying degrees for the duration of the event. This was further scuppered by fairly strong headwinds leaving competitors very cold and wet at the start of the run section. The 5km run course was mostly cross country but the deluge of water had turned it into a bit of a mudbath making progress much more difficult than last year's race.
All from Halstead Road Runners that took part would like to thank Born2Tri for putting on a great event.
Below are the times recorded:
Paul Frindle 1.20.34
Don English 1.21.14
Sam Wolton 1.25.58
John Markham 1.26.13
Peri Collins 1.31.14

Great turnout at the first race last week. 48 runners completed the 5k at Pebmarsh. The 2nd race of the series will be at Colne Engaine on Wednesday 3rd June. A new 5m course will start at 8pm from the school and finish at the village green. A few of our slower runners will be allowed to start at 7.45pm but please don't abuse this as too many early starters will defeat the object of running together in one race! Club kit should be worn, failure to do so will mean a 1 minute penalty!
We could do with one or two volunteers to record the times and at least one person on the course to marshall.
Hope to see you all there as well as afterwards in the 5 Bells!
This is the first time Essex Air Ambulance has hosted its own cycle event and are hoping to make the day a big success:
Over 50 cyclists have entered so far and you can enter on the day
Due to some late changes a few marshals are still needed to assist on the 25 mile route and at the refreshment stops on route - please contact Wendy on 01787 226110 if you can help for some or all of the day
